Day 1 - CLT to ATL

Day 1
May 22nd, 2012
Charlotte to Atlanta

Charlotte - The Duke Energy Building

Better late than never.
That sums up our departure experience. We were planning on leaving for Atlanta between 1 and 3 in the afternoon so that we could meet up with Hayley’s aunt (Beth) for dinner and drinks in Vinnings (an area outside of ATL where Kyle’s work is). Beth was planning on showing us around a bit and introducing us to a few friends of hers.
Welp… plans changed and I blame IKEA! Ikea was supposed to deliver my bed, mattress and dresser between 9 – 1 and they came at 12:48. No big deal. Kyle’s an engineer and I’m not to bad with a screwdriver, hammer, and a set of instructions. We can assemble it all and be done around 3pm.
This plan changed when we open the first box with the beams of my bed. The biggest wood beam was snapped completely in half.
After a while on hold with Ikea we realized the easiest thing to do was to drive back to Ikea and exchange the part.
Check – got the new part. Got the bed all assembled. About to put the final touch on it – the metal mid beam that provides support for the mattress. Game over. There is no mid beam to be found. We double check all the boxes. No sign of any beams.
Feeling defeated we decide to lean the mattress against the wall and finally head out for Atlanta since its 5 in the afternoon by now.
 Better late than never.

South Carolina - Calm After the Storm
Some drive highlights:
1.     Kyle finished a half gallon of milk and Ali said, “Wow. Drinking milk all by itself reminds me of childhood.”    Weirdo.
2.     We discovered a few new great Sirius radio stations.
3.     There was an epic storm with a few really good lightening strikes and – “More rain than I’ve ever seen in my life!” – Kyle
4.     Stopped at Exxon Mobil for our first Diesel fill up. Kyle didn’t accidentally put gas in. Snaps.

Light Reading from the Vatican

5.     Someone at the gas station gave Kyle a pamphlet from God aka a little print out of a scripture reading for us to enjoy on our road trip.
6.     Saw a very pink sunset post storm.

Between Charlotte and Atlanta - Sit Back and Reeeeeelax
250 miles later -  averaging 44.8 mpg (the car facts are for Mr. Glen Farr since I know he’s dying to know all our stats).
Arrive at Roswell, GA – right outside Atlanta.
Hayley’s Aunt’s house was incredibly nice and she was such a sweet hostess. From teaching us everything about dancing with the starts to serving us delicious, local key lime pie!

P.s. so glad not to sleep on an air mattress. Thanks Beth!

  1. Too bad about the Ikea deal. At least it's close-by for when you get back. On a lighter note...whoooooo road trip!
I like the blog! I dig it
